| | Pre-Surgical Options | Your pet's health is our primary concern. Before any anesthetic procedure we recommend running the appropriate blood panel for your pet's age to check that their major organ systems are healthy. We now offer intravenous catheter placement so your pet can receive fluids during the anesthetic period. This will provide for safer anesthesia, a quicker recovery, and better pain management. It also provides the ability to give emergency drugs immediately if needed. For our geriatric patients we offer the use of Sevoflurane, an anesthetic gas that enables much better control of anesthetic depth, a quicker recovery, and increased safety in patients with a greater anesthetic risk. | | Heartworm Disease is a Fatal and Preventable Disease. Make Sure Your Pet is Protected! | Heartworms are transmitted through mosquitoes, which we have year-round in this area. There were 38,535 cases reported in dogs in Texas in 2001 with 3070 cases in Dallas County alone. Your dog can be tested for heartworms with a simple blood test. We offer a variety of heartworm preventions to suit your lifestyle from a monthly tablet or topical product to an injection that lasts 6 months. Heartworms can also be transmitted to cats and we offer prevention for them as well. Ask the staff about your options! |

Be sure to provide plenty of clean, fresh water, shade, and adequate ventilation for them at all times. Also avoid excessive exercise during hot weather. Watch for signs of heat related illness which include profuse panting and salivation, fatigue, high fever, rapid heart rate, and muscular weakness or collapse. Contact us immediately if you notice any of these signs in your pet during hot weather. |
